So, now that it appears that John McCain, George Bush's original "mandate" is going to be the Republican nominee, the press is going to take their fluffing of the guy to a whole new level.
McCain has gotten the repulation for being a "moderate", a "maverick", and someone who'll "reach across the aisle" to work with Democrats. This despite the fact that, while he feints opposition to some Republican positions, in the end he bends over and gives in.
And the headline in today's print version of the Philadelphia Inquirer furthers that bullshit premise.

"McCain Reaches Out". Which you'd think refers to reaching out to Democrats.
It doesn't.
The always reliable McClatchy News Service gets it exactly right:
McCain Renews Courtship of Conservatives
The truth is there isn't a principle that John McCain won't sell out to get power, and there isn't right-wing smear too vitriolic for him to stand up for himself and even his (second) wife and child. He'll give in to the most extreme elements of the right-wing, from torture to suspension of habeas corpus to reproductive freedom to the economy if he thinks it'll get him elected.
Meawhile, the Democratic Party is poised to nominate either the first woman or the first African-America for President of the United States of America. Meanwhile, the Republican, whose idea of diversity is murdering innocent men, women, and children in as many countries as possible, are trying to decide which rich, old, white guy will kill the most brown people.
